A random assortment of pictures from Jasper, just a few hours west from where we live. These are (obviously) from more than one trip. We usually go to Jasper several times a year because it is so close to home. It is great to visit in either the summer or the winter as the landscapes and experiences are so different from each other. Whenever you go the food is always great. Evil Dave’s and L&W provided many meals for us over the years.
Writing on Stone is a park in Southern Alberta known for it’s petroglyphs. Unfortunately in our haste to grab some Alberta pictures at the last minute we failed to get any pictures of the actual “writing on stone”. The whole region is part of the badlands and has some really interesting geological formations that have formed from erosion from milk river and the winds that always blow in this area. So here are some Hoodoos, a baby rattlesnake, and a view over the park.
Head Smashed In is located in southern Alberta in the transition from the prairies to the foothills. When there were actually buffalo (bison) roaming these areas they were chased over these outcroppings in yearly hunts to provide food for the native peoples of Canada.
The most famous calendar picture lake in Alberta. We assume you already know what it looks like, and therefore have no pictures of the actual lake in this post. In the first picture you can see off to the right the glacier and where the lake is but that’s all you get.
Instead we have our pictures from the ski resort, which in the summer is grizzly bear corridor. We went on a small walk but didn’t see any bears.
